Sokol Hall in Dolní Sloupnice

The Sokol Hall in Dolní Sloupnice is a striking example of Czech modernist architecture from the late 1920s. The building was designed in 1926 by Vojtěch Vanický, a native of Sloupnice, architect, and member of Sokol, who was collaborating with his teacher Josef Gočár at the time. Construction was completed between 1929 and 1930, and to this day it remains one of the village’s most striking landmarks.

The architectural design of the Sokol Hall differs significantly from traditional rural buildings. Set on sloping terrain, the building combines red exposed brickwork with light-colored plastered surfaces, and its character is more reminiscent of a modern industrial structure than a traditional gymnasium. Vanický based his design on contemporary European architectural trends, and the building is influenced primarily by Dutch brick architecture.

The Sokol Hall has been preserved in very good condition, including many original architectural details. It is listed as a cultural heritage site. For film and photography productions, it offers an authentic setting from the first half of the 20th century, and thanks to its architecture, it is particularly well-suited for shooting period films and TV series.
