Mladějov Railway and Industrial Museum

The complex in Mladějov in Moravia is a unique combination of industrial architecture, a functional historical railway and expositions of an industrial museum. The extensive complex also has buildings and objects exhibiting elements of Urbex. It is an authentic industrial environment that faithfully captures the atmosphere of the First Republic and socialism. It thus offers a wide range of uses in fiction and documentary filmmaking.

The basis of the location is the 600 mm gauge Mladějov narrow gauge railway, built in 1918 for the transport of lupk, chamotte and coal. The line was in operation until 1991 and throughout this time it was mainly steam locomotives that served the area, some of which are still in service today. The 11 km long line connects several industrial sites: the factory complex in Mladějov, the former Karel mine in Nová Ves and the Hřebeč mine site. It leads through a natural landscape, over deforested slopes and past unique mine tailings. The line is one of the last preserved and still operational narrow gauge industrial railways in the Czech Republic.

The location also includes the Mladějov Industrial Museum, situated in a former chamotte. The exhibition includes operational transport and construction machinery (e.g. tractors, motorcycles, trucks, bulldozers, excavators, buses, etc.). There are fully operational steam and diesel locomotives, mining and passenger cars, including classic "huns". Museum and railroad vehicles can be used directly in the scenes.

Filming can be done both outdoors and inside former chamotte, mines and other industrial buildings. The museum's approximately 3,000 m² of indoor space includes seven themed rooms, authentic workshops and a furnace room. There are also factory buildings in Mladějov and a warehouse in Hřebč. The industrial environment is stylishly preserved and without modern building modifications, which reinforces the period atmosphere. It is thus suitable for stylization to the period from the 1920s to the 1980s.

In terms of access, the location is easily accessible - parts of Mladějov and Hřebeč are accessible by cars, trucks and buses. The Nová Ves area is less accessible, via a forest road. The track itself is accessible by rail vehicles and in about 10 places also by cars via crossings with passable roads. Electricity is available in Mladějov and Hřebec (three-phase current, 63 A, max. 45 kW), while Nová Ves and the railway line are not electrified - here it is possible to use the power stations located on the train. For parking there are extensive parking areas in Mladějov and Hřebč; in Nová Ves there is no official parking area, but it is possible to stop in the field.

Facilities for the crew include the possibility of refreshments for up to 100 people in the Mladějov area (café and outdoor seating); catering for larger groups, including full meals, can be arranged. Accommodation is not possible directly in the area, but there are hotels in Moravská Třebová (15 km), Česká Třebová (20-25 km) and Svitavy (25 km) within easy reach.

The site has a rich history linked to mining and the German population in the region. For film and television shoots, there is also the possibility of period styling and the provision of historic vehicles, making the location an extremely attractive space for various audiovisual projects.
