Devil’s Ruse

crime/drama (TV film)
According to legend once there was a monk who lived in the Podlažice Monastery near Chrudim in the 13th century. Since he had sinned, he was sentenced to be walled up alive. In order to avoid this harsh punishment he promised to create a book containing all human knowledge in one single night. Near midnight he became certain that he would not complete this task, so he sold his soul to the Devil, who then finished the masterpiece instead of him thus creating the Devil's Bible. Currently, this book is considered to be the largest manuscript in the world. This mythical tale was the source of inspiration for director Jiří Strach in making his three-part TV series titled "Devil's Ruse".
